We at Challah for Hunger stand in strength with the Tree of Life, Pittsburgh, and global Jewish communities. We share in the Jewish community’s collective grief and we wish peace to those who are hurting in the wake of this senseless violence.
Challah for Hunger’s roots in Jewish values and ancient traditions remind us of our strength in a time where it feels hard to feel much of anything but grief. Challah is a braided bread comprised of strands of dough. These strands come together to make a braid that is stronger and more beautiful when they are intertwined and interconnected together.
In this time where our hearts feel heavy with sadness, consider creating space in the days to come to engage in community, advocacy, and philanthropy. Bake challah. Be together. Act with kindness and intention. Give of yourself generously. Raise your voice.
Our Pitt chapter is hosting “Braiding Against Hate,” a special bake where they are raising funds for the Tree of Life community and also making extra challah to deliver to the Tree of Life members, on Friday, November 2nd. You can support their efforts by sharing their Facebook event with your friends and family.
May we respond to this tragedy with renewed commitment to building our shared world with love.
