Welcome to the newest chapter in the CfH family - Challah For Hunger Down Under! We had our first bake-off and sale on August 26/27, and it was an unbelievable success that totally exceeded our expectations! We baked over 300 challot in 4 flavours (plain, choc-chip, cinnamon-sugar and wholemeal/vegan) and we were completely sold out within a few hours. The challot were sold on the 4 biggest university campuses in Sydney - University of Sydney (USYD), University of New South Wales (UNSW), University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Macquarie University (UMac) - and at the biggest Jewish day school in Sydney, Moriah College. We raised $660 and engaged both Jewish and non-Jewish students about Darfur and hunger in Sydney. As all ingredients have been generously donated by Our Big Kitchen (www.obk.org.au) and the Australasian Union of Jewish Students (AUJS), 100% of the money we raise goes directly to the two charities we support. 50% goes to Jewish Aid to help with the Sudanese Refugees, while the other 50% goes to Oz Harvest, a local hunger relief organisation that collects meals from restaurants, caterers and businesses and distributes them to soup kitchens around Sydney (www.ozharvest.org.au).
